Having a safe and protected place to live is very important for both physical and psychological health wellness. By investing resources into real estate stabilization services, the program aims to holistically support individuals and families, improve quality of life, and develop healthier, more resilient neighborhoods.<br>

<br>Program Goals:<br>

<br>Increasing real estate access: The program will improve housing access for qualified families, particularly those that have actually been disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
|
||||
Providing education and resources: Educational resources and assistance will be supplied to prevent the loss of real estate, ensuring individuals and households have actually the tools needed to protect and maintain safe and cost effective housing.

||||
Strengthening health and wellness: The program intends to enhance the health and well-being of households facing the highest barriers to securing and preserving safe, budget friendly real estate.<br>

<br>The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) in collaboration with Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) and local health partners introduced the Good Housing = Health Program on October 1, 2023. The program term is October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024. Additional funding will be sought to continue efforts.<br>

<br>Multi-sector Collaboration<br>

<br>As part of the overarching SDOH Strategy, multisector partnership is important to supporting community-led efforts. By partnering with MSHDA, the MDHHS Policy and Planning Office has established the Good Housing = Health Program to increase and promote real estate stabilization resources and services throughout the state. Funding has been supplied to local [health](https://career.cihpng.org/) partners to hire and maintain community health employees (also known as navigators) who will proactively seek opportunities to link Michigan citizens to housing resources and services. This effort showcases the value of collaborative partnerships in producing much healthier and flourishing communities.<br>

<br>The Good Housing = Health Program uses a vast array of housing and SDOH support including education, housing navigation and outreach, recommendations, shelter diversion services, MI Bridges benefits help and other outreach services administered by local health departments and community-based companies.<br>
